Huawei founder warns Norway against political pressure

Norway will fall behind in the 5G development if we listen too much to the US and do not choose the best developer, believes founder Hu Zhengfei of Huawei.

– “I don’t think you should buy goods and services based on political factors. Products related to infrastructure have long lifecycles. If you lag behind in the beginning, it will be difficult to take the lead again,” Ren Zhengfei told NRK.

In May, Huawei was blacklisted by US authorities, who believe the company poses a security risk. And in October, it became clear that Telia is abandoning the company and allowing Ericsson to expand its new 5G network in Norway.

Now founder Ren Zhengfei warns Norway and Europe, saying they could hang China if they give in to US political pressure. He denys that the company will provide information that the Chinese state may benefit from. And says that he supports a clear regulatory framework for telecom and cyber security that is the same for everyone.

– “We would never do it based on our self-interest. A single offense will spread throughout the world. Our business empire will collapse. We will not be able to pay the company’s debt. We will respect and guarantee Europe and Norway’s digital sovereignty.”
