Norwegians have been vigorously refurbishing during the corona period. The construction products industry has received a sales increase of over 20 per cent in the first four months of the year.

The building materials trade also experienced growth in the professional market. Here the increase was 3.6 per cent compared with the first four months last year.

“The construction warehouses have experienced a huge upswing in sales to private customers,” says Aslaug Koksvik, director of building trade at Virke (Enterprise Federation of Norway).

She adds that the large growth in construction goods trade has been greatly influenced by the coronavirus and the authorities’ infection control measures. Across the country there has been an upturn, but most of it was traded in the building products industry in Vestfold and Telemark and in Agder.

Despite the progress, Virke say they are worried about the future because of the downturn in the Norwegian economy, the weakening of the housing market, and reticence in building new housing.
