A total of 1,000 people were notified of redundancies in the first week after the turn of the year, the NAV reports.

A total of 120 companies submitted redundancy notices in the aforementioned period, of which industrial companies accounted for half of the redundancies.

Employees in the accommodation industry and the construction industry have been hit particularly hard.

Only companies that are considering laying off or laying off ten or more people are required to notify the NAV of the redundancies. The statistics from the NAC do not show how many of the redundancy notices or dismissals are actually implemented. The NAV is also not notified of redundancy notices that have been withdrawn.

In the last six months, the average has been around 500 redundancy notices and redundancies per week. However, in the weeks before Christmas, the numbers were much higher, with 15,200 in week 52 and 3,300 in week 51.
