Skanska lets go of more than 70 workers

The construction company Skanska does not get enough new orders. Now, between 70 and 110 construction workers will be dismissed.

– It’s a very sad situation. My heart goes out to  those poor wretches who are affected by this, this affects a great number of people. Many will now feel uncertain about what the future will bring, steward Jan Åge Vik says. He says, however, that he can understand that the leadership needs to  fire such a large number of people. Over 100 of the approximately 650 employees in the plant construction part of the company have been laid off since the beginning of February.
– They can not pay over 100 employees with no work to do.
The Communications Director Paul P. Syse Skanska confirms that the downsizing is due to overcapacity. Both he and Vik points out that the company is struggling to get deals when competing with cheaper foreign labor.
