Norwegians bought 960,000 liters of alcoholic beverages on Wednesday. In the run-up to May 17, Vinmonopolet thus set a preliminary daily record for 2021.
“We know that the days before May 17 are big sales days,” communications manager Jens Nordahl in Vinmonopolet told newspaper Tønsbergs Blad.
Wednesday’s sale surpassed April 30, when 930,000 liters were sold.
Nordahl pointed out that Norwegians have been good at spreading their shopping around major holidays so far in the pandemic.
In 2020, Vinmonopolet sales increased by 40% from the previous year, up from over 85 million liters to just over 115 million.
