A majority in the Oslo City Council wants to preserve and expand Ullevål Hospital instead of building a new, large hospital in Gaustad.

The current position of the Council became clear after Oslo Municipality’s statement on the state’s hospital plans had been processed by the Health and Social Services Committee and the Urban Development Committee, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reports.

“We won’t give up until we win because we know we have the best arguments… There is room to expand Ullevål and further develop the health service for Oslo’s residents,” Morten Edvardsen (SP) stated.

Although the Labor Party (AP) does not support the demand for development at Ullevål rather than Gaustad, Oslo’s AP wants hospital operations at Ullevål to continue as well.

All parties want a new hospital in Aker. Oslo City Council adopted its statement in two weeks, but the state had the last word after the government decided to override Oslo Municipality.
