According to DPA, the private funds of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will be frozen within the framework of the new EU sanctions package.
Europe’s foreign ministers are preparing to approve the package on Friday afternoon, along with a number of measures aimed at Russian banks and industry, sources told DPA.
Putin and Lavrov will not be affected by any travel restrictions in connection with the package, which will underline the EU’s willingness to maintain symbolic diplomatic channels.
The matter was discussed by EU leaders late Thursday, and many of them are said to have been positive about the proposal.
