On Wednesday and Thursday, there will most likely be large avalanches in Western Norway, in Trøndelag, and Nordland. Ytre Nordmøre was also covered by the avalanche danger warning on Tuesday.
The risk of avalanches is greatest on Wednesday, but naturally triggered avalanches are also expected beyond Thursday due to a lot of precipitation combined with strong winds and mild weather.
The weather conditions are described as “extensively unstable.”
“We are expecting several large and some very large naturally triggered avalanches,” Odd-Arne Mikkelsen at the NVE stated.
The NVE has increased its emergency preparedness and can assist municipalities that need help in dealing with floods and avalanches.
