All the police’s black leather jackets will be replaced with modern jackets as of this week. More than 10,000 jackets have been replaced since 2017.

The reason for the change in uniform is that more and more people complained that the famous leather jacket, which has been a part of the police uniform since 1994, is heavy, bulky and outdated.

From July, however, it will be completely replaced with a lighter all-weather jacket, writes NRK. The first deliveries began in 2017, but it was then announced that it would take time before everyone had it replaced.

It looks like a tent when I put it on me,» says head Geir Oustorp for a preventive section at Drammen Police Station in the South Eastern Police District of NRK about the old leather jackets.

He adds that they are very happy with the new jackets.

The agreement is worth NOK 50-60 million. It was not the cheapest option that won, but the jacket that the future users ranked as best.
