Nakstad: Corona certificates are ineffective with omicron

With the omicron variant in Norway, corona certificates would provide false security, assistant health director Espen Nakstad says.

“A corona pass could probably have reversed the infection trend for delta faster, and that we had fewer hospital admissions. The challenge is that omicron seems to be easily transmitted, even among the fully vaccinated,” Nakstad told the newspaper VG.

Before the weekend, the Oslo Conservatives’ (H) group leader Anne Haabeth Rygg said corona certificates must be used to get more people vaccinated.

However, Nakstad rejects her proposal, noting that the corona certificate would not help prevent the spread of infection effectively.

“With omicron, there is no basis for using corona certificates to regulate what unvaccinated people can do in their free time,” Nakstad said.
