Norwegian authorities will deploy police officer in the Philippines
Authorities are stepping up the fight against Norwegian sexual abusers and hiring a Norwegian policeman to be deployed to the Philippines, writes TV 2.
The police officer must be employed in a so-called liaison position. Justice Minister Jøran Kallmyr (Frp) says to the channel that with the measure he wants to put an end to Norwegian sexual abusers in the Philippines.
Norwegian pedophiles should be aware that we will have a much greater chance of catching them, says the Minister of Justice.
The announcement of the position is not far off, and according to the plan, the police officer who will have Kripos (National Criminal Investigation Service) in control, will be operational in the Philippines in early 2020. However, the position itself will formally fall under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Kripos chief Ketil Haukaas hopes it will be preventative to have a police officer present in the Philippines. He identifies the problem as escalating, and believes that Norway has both a legal and a moral responsibility to protect children, even outside Norway, when they are subjected to abuse by Norwegian citizens.
Norwegian men who engage in sexual abuse of children abroad should be held accountable for their actions. They should not feel safe, even if they sit in their own living room and engage in abuse, Haukaas said in a press release.
