While Central Norway prepares the NATO Trident Juncture exercise, US combat aircraft will be supporting another exercise in Troms. However, Russia was not informed.
In the exercise called Northern Screen, more than 700 US soldiers from the US Marine Corps will work together with soldiers from the Norwegian Brigade North who will be going to Iraq.
The nuclear-powered US Navy’s aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman is also heading north to the Norwegian Sea to participate in the exercise, writes the Armed Forces Forum.
The combat aircraft on the carrier will train to attack ground targets in Norway, but according to the Armed Forces, Russia is not informed of the exercise. The reason is that the exercise is too small, reports NRK.
– “Bombs will be used during this exercise. This is not part of the NATO exercise Trident Juncture, it is allied training taking place in Norway,” says Sven Harald Halvorsen, spokesman for the Defense Staff.
“I do not want to speculate if there are reactions from the Russians. They are keeping track,” says Halvorsen.
