The insurance company Gjensidige has registered almost 100 claim reports after the storm in Southern Norway in the last 24 hours.

In a press release, the insurance company stated that many of the cases concern water that entered basements but that some of the damage is also related to wind.

The company assumes that there will be more claims in the coming days.

Though the specific financial amount has not been specifically mentioned, Gjensidige stated that they have “registered claims amounting to tens of millions of kroner” in the last 24 hours.

The compensation estimate is the same for all insurance companies.

“A lot of expenses”

“Water damage involves a lot of other expenses for the person affected. Drying up, demolition, and reconstruction – the process could take months,” communications manager Bjarne Rysstad in Gjensidige noted.

It can cost half a million kroner to refurbish a basement that was filled with water, the company warned in the press release.

Last year, the insurance companies paid out approximately NOK 700 million for damages caused by storms.
