On Saturday, nine people were diagnosed with coronavirus in Arendal, the highest number of daily cases in the Municipality in three weeks. Several hundred people are now in quarantine.
Eight of the newly infected people in Arendal were already in quarantine when they received positive test results on Saturday, according to the newspaper Agderposten.
The number of daily cases in the Municipality hasn’t been as high since May 21, when ten people were diagnosed with corona.
Municipal chief physician Helene Rakeie in Arendal is worried about a new outbreak.
“If people start to leave quarantine earlier, the extent of the infection can quickly increase,” Rakeie told Agderposten.
More than 500 people quarantined
As of 10 PM on Saturday, more than 500 close contacts of infected people were quarantined. Some of them protested, and many thought they should be able to test themselves out of quarantine, according to Rakeie.
Most new cases of infection are among young people between 16 and 19, and several schools are affected by the outbreak.
