The offer of free HPV vaccine to young women will be introduced in the autumn. Folkehelseinstituttet( the Insititute of Public Health) have now chosen the vaccine they will use for the vaccinations.
The Institute believes that the vaccine which was chosen from the tender procedure is a good choice for HPV vaccination of young women, , says Britt Wolden, Deputy Director at the NIPH.
The vaccine which was chosen from the tender process was the the HPV vaccine Cervarix from manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline, and it protects against two types of virus that are the causes of 70 percent of the cervical cancer cases.
– HPV infect very easily and often at a young age. The vaccine could prevent many cases of cervical cancer and precancerous cervical lesions in young women, Wolden says.
Just before the New Year the parliament decided that young women born in 1991 and later are to be offered free vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccines will be offered from the autumn of this year until two years later.
