Avinor has decided to postpone the decision on the construction of a new airport in Bodø by 12 months due to the corona pandemic.

“After almost two years of the pandemic, Avinor is in a serious financial situation, and there is still great financial uncertainty about the future. Therefore, it is not justifiable to assume the risk related to making a decision on the implementation of the project now,” CEO Abraham Foss noted in a press release.

This means that – at the earliest – the new airport can be completed in the last half of 2029. The project has a cost framework of NOK 6.6 billion.

Originally, Avinor’s contribution was estimated at NOK 1.8 billion, but as the financing solution now stands, Avinor’s contribution will be increased to NOK 2.2 billion. In addition, there is a standard project risk allocation of up to NOK 1 billion.

“We understand that this is a difficult message, especially for Bodø Municipality,” Foss added. He noted that Avinor still wants the project to be implemented.
