A man in Bergen, who is now in his 50s, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for abusing the girl next door several times between 1997 and 2001.
At the time, the man was in his 30s, while the girl next door was aged 4-5 to 7-8 years, according to the verdict from the Gulating Court of Appeal, according to newspaper Bergens Tidende (BT).
Together with his then cohabitant, the man was on holiday with the girl’s family.
The victim in the case first spoke out about the abuse in a conversation with a therapist at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic when she was 13 years old, but the case was not reported at the time.
The woman, on the other hand, reported the man herself in 2017.
Illegal photos
Police found illegal photos of children on the man’s mobile phone in December 2018, photos the man claimed were there because the mobile had been hacked.
The court did not believe his explanation.
The woman has subsequently been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and is struggling with concentration difficulties and sleep problems, among other things.
In addition to the prison sentence, the man has been sentenced to pay the woman NOK 4 million in compensation.
“We will review the verdict and consider whether it should be appealed,” the man’s lawyer Kent Fredriksen told BT.
