A subvariant of the omicron variant that is more contagious than the original variant is rapidly gaining ground in Norway, the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) warned in its weekly report.
In its report, the FHI writes that there were seven cases of the subvariant on January 4 but that the figure increased to 611 cases on January 19.
The virus variant, called BA. 2, has mainly been confirmed in Oslo.
The subvariant’s properties are unknown, other than the fact that it is more contagious than the original omicron variant (BA. 1). It is also on the rise in Denmark and Sweden, according to the FHI.
