The Norwegian government is considering stopping all flights from the UK, Minister of Health Bent Høie said. “It could happen on short notice,” he added.

The new corona variant discovered in the UK can be up to 70% more contagious than the common corona virus.

The variant has now been discovered in several countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands, and Italy.

If it becomes widespread in Norway, it can become more demanding to deal with the epidemic, the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) warned.

Therefore, work is being done to find out what Norway can do to prevent the spread of this variant.

“This is something that has been continuously assessed over the last 24 hours by the National Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Directorate of Health.

“During the morning, it will be assessed whether we will further tighten the requirements that were introduced yesterday, including stopping flights,” Høie (H) told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Entry ban

Both Denmark, Sweden, and Finland have already stopped all aircraft and boat entries from the United Kingdom.

When asked why Norway has not already done the same, the Minister said that many countries do not have such strict rules as Norway in the first place.

On Sunday, the request came from the Norwegian Directorate of Health that all travelers from the UK must be tested.

All travelers from the UK must also show a negative COVID-19 test on arrival to Norway.
