Last week, 39,200 people had their sick leave certified by a doctor in Norway. The number of corona-related cases is declining, while the number of influenza cases is increasing.

A total of 39,200 people reported sickness absence certified by a doctor last week – 1,600 fewer than the week before. Out of the total, 7,600 people were reported sick with coronavirus, according to new figures from the NAV – a decrease of 3,500 (-32%) from the week before.

The figures also show that 1,300 people on sick leave last week were diagnosed with the flu, which is up from 800 the week before.

“Even though the number of corona-related diagnoses continues to fall and the number of flu cases continues to rise, there are still more new people on sick leave with corona than the flu,” NAV chief Hans Christian Holte said.

Last week, most new people on sick leave were registered among people employed in health and social services (10,600).
