The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) wants around 8,000 new emergency accommodation places in connection with the increasing number of asylum seekers from Ukraine.

“We have already entered into agreements with established suppliers with whom we have a framework agreement,” the UDI announced in a press release.

It will still take some time before the accommodation is ready for use, partly because personnel is needed.

“Due to great uncertainty about how many people will come over time, we continue the work of providing accommodation places for the Ukrainian refugees,” the UDI noted.

The UDI announced a tender for a large number of additional emergency accommodation places, in addition to announcing a tender for the ordinary reception and reception for unaccompanied minors.

The UDI began to provide an overview of Ukrainian asylum seekers in Norway on February 25. Since then, 957 applications have been registered.

More than 2.15 million Ukrainians have fled the country since Russia invaded on February 24, according to UN figures.
