Russia has warned that the country during in the period of 14-17. August will establish four major danger zones in international waters off the coast of Nordland and Troms.
This indicates that Russian naval and air forces are planning to carry out an extensive sharp exercise activity in these areas, the Ministry of Defense writes in a press release on Tuesday.
According to Norwegian authorities, the Russian exercise activity fits into a pattern in which Russia “operates and operates military activity more frequently and farther west than before”.
“Norway emphasizes predictability and restraint in planning and implementing national and allied military exercises and training. We do not see Russia taking the same considerations into account,” says Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen (H).
“We also do not see purely military reasons why the expected Russian exercise activity must be carried out in precisely these waters as far west and near Norway,” he adds.
Bakke-Jensen points out that over time, Russia has appeared increasingly assertive in Norway’s surrounding areas.
“Norway is concerned about this and will closely monitor the expected Russian exercise activity,” he says.
