Solberg: Nobody wants a nuclear power plant in their neighborhood

Conservative Party (H) leader Erna Solberg believes the proposal to establish a nuclear power plant in Norway is not a good idea.

The proposal is up for debate at the Conservative Party’s national meeting this weekend. The Conservatives in Innlandet believe that nuclear power can be an important piece in solving the challenge of getting enough energy. But party leader Erna Solberg does not think that is a good solution for Norway.

“I am not in principle against nuclear power; I think it is one of the answers in many countries around the world. But in Norway… We have so many energy sources we can utilize,” Solberg said at a press conference on Wednesday.

She believes the debate is a result of many people trying to rethink energy policy in a demanding situation. But nuclear power is not an easy solution, she added.

“Some people think it will be easier with nuclear power than with wind power, but I do not think so. Nobody wants a nuclear power plant in their neighborhood,” Solberg added.
