Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven will resign as the leader of the Social Democrats at the party’s national meeting this autumn.
With that, he will also resign as Prime Minister, according to news bureau NTB. He made the announcement on Sunday.
“I will leave my position as party leader at the party congress in November and then also ask to be replaced as prime minister,” Löfven said in a speech.
“I want to give my successor the very best conditions,” he said shortly after the Swedish media learned that he wanted to resign.
