NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg believes Russian President Vladimir Putin has underestimated Ukraine.

“President Putin has made a big mistake,” Stoltenberg said when he met the press before NATO’s extraordinary summit in Brussels on Thursday.

“That mistake was to start a war against an independent, sovereign country.

“He has underestimated the strength of the Ukrainian people and the heroism of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian military,” Stoltenberg said.

  1. Yes, it appears the Russians miscalculated the level of resistance, militarily. An infantryman can shoot down planes as well as destroy tanks and at considerable range, especially with weapons being pumped in from Western/NATO countries.
Whether the ethnic Russian Ukrainians are identifying as patriotic Ukrainians or are keeping quiet waiting to see which side of a new border they may be on remains to be seen.
Militarily, the Ukrainians are now even counter-attacking in the west … Kiev and west-nothwest of Kherson … but the Russians are slowly inching forward in the east, to surround East Ukraine.
They are determined to destroy the Azov Battalion in Mariupol.
Mistake or not, the Russians know they must not lose, completely.
And moderate Medvedev’s nuclear warnings are a serious development.
