A total of 800 people were present at Equinor’s facility at Mongstad when a leak occurred. The leak has now been stopped.

The leak occurred in a production plant in the refinery in connection with the start-up of the plant, Equinor’s press officer Eskil Eriksen told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

“We want to normalize the situation at the plant before people can eventually return,” Eriksen said.

Equinor’s employees quickly isolated the leak. The emergency services were notified of the leak at Equinor’s refinery at Mongstad in Alver and Austrheim at noon on Thursday.

Forty minutes later, the fire brigade announced that the leak was stopped, and at 2 PM, the operations at the facility returned to normal, according to the Western Police District.
