Trondheim, Tromsø and Drammen have been selected to test how the new Smittestopp app works. Testing begins on Monday.

The three municipalities have entered into collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health to be test municipalities. It was previously known that Drammen had been selected, and on Wednesday it was announced that agreements have also been made with Trondheim and Tromsø.

During the first few weeks that the Smittestopp app is in operation, the app will first and foremost gather information about users’ movements. The app also has a notification feature to be tested in the three selected municipalities. The notification feature will produce an overview of the number of infected people, and the number of close contacts associated with each infected person.

When the app is in normal use, the feature will be automated and SMS notifications will be sent without any manual process or assessment before the alerts are sent.
