So far this season, 47 percent more deer have been slaughtered than the same period in 2015. Meanwhile, there is three times as much reindeer meat in stock as there was last year.
21,400 reindeer have been killed so far this season, totaling 500 tonnes of reindeer meat, according to the Agriculture Directorate. At this same time last year, only 14,600 had been slaughtered.
As of October 1st, there was an additional 84 tons of reindeer meat in stock. Inventory figures are taken from four players and the Agriculture Directorate expects to receive reports from several others, therefore resulting in even higher inventory levels.
