Over the past three weeks, imports of medicines and other pharmaceutical products have increased significantly.

In weeks 12, 13 and 14, medicines and pharmaceutical products were imported for around 590 million kroner per week, which is almost 150 million more than in the corresponding weeks last year, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).

The import of medicines in week 15 – Easter week – declined this year, but was still considerably higher than the average for the weeks prior to Easter in 2019.

The weekly statistics on total imports of goods during the Easter week show that the import value fell by more than a third from the previous week. At the same time, the import level was 11 per cent higher than Easter week last year. The strongest fall was the import of machinery and means of transport.

Export value fell by almost 30 per cent from week 14 to 15. Lower exports of fish, machinery, chemical products and refined petroleum products reduced the total. Nevertheless, exports were 22 per cent higher than last year’s Easter week.
