The Church’s SOS says that they have almost twice as many acute suicide calls this summer, compared to last summer.

The Church’s SOS service has recently noticed an particularly large increase, writes VG. In the period of June 15 to July 15, almost twice as many acute suicide calls was registered when compared to the same period last year.

-” It might be connected to the Corona situation.”, says the General Secretary of The Church’s SOS, Leif Jarle Theis.

He explains that what was difficult before, can be even more difficult in today’s situation.

-” Things that used to be safe are no longer there.”

The main topics in these conversations are mental disorder, loneliness, and relationship problems. Now, there are many that feel that life is too difficult to live through.

-” It is unbelievably sad to see that many people are so desperate that they are close to taking their own lives, but we also think that it is good that they call us. I hope it will help them hold out longer.” says Theis.
