A total of 880 employees in 33 Norwegian breweries and mineral water factories are ready to go on strike on Saturday if no agreement is reached in the mediation that starts on Thursday.

The companies that may be affected by a possible strike are spread all over the country, the Norwegian Food and Beverage Workers’ Union (NNN) stated in a press release.

Jarle Wilhelmsen of the NNN told Børsen that, in practice, only workers at microbreweries wouldn’t be affected by a possible strike.

It could take a week before there is a shortage of beer and soft drinks in the shops if there is a strike, he added.

Mediation starts today

The mediation between NHO Food and Drink and the employee organization starts at the State Conciliator of Norway (Riksmekleren) on Thursday.

The mediation deadline is at midnight Saturday night.

There has been a series of strikes in Norway in recent weeks.

After the bus drivers’ strike in late September, workers in the oil industry have also gone on strike in early October.
