A fifth Norwegian has been confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus. Several emergency services have reported a sharp increase in inquiries from anxious people in recent days.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty. You read about more people getting sick and the virus appearing in other countries. That makes people worried,” says Inger Marie Moksnes of the emergency services in Fredrikstad to TV 2.

The medical services in both Oslo and Bergen inform Dagbladet that they have had problems answering all the inquiries. They ask that people who only need general information do not call the emergency phone lines.

Earlier on Friday, the Directorate of Health established a separate information telephone number (81 55 50 15) to relieve the emergency phone lines and other parts of the health service.

“On Thursday, emergency medical phone line 113 experienced such a surge of questions about corona that people with serious illnesses did not get through. That is why we have created this information phone line,” says Johan Torgersen of the Directorate of Health.

In total, six Norwegians have been found infected, five of whom are in Norway. There is one person in Bergen, two in Oslo, one in Bærum, one in Tromsø and one in Florence in Italy.
