Russia has approved a third vaccine against the coronavirus, Prime Minister Mikhail Misjustin says.
The first 120,000 doses of the new CoviVac vaccine are expected to be ready in March, Misjustin said on Saturday.
Russia launched the Sputnik V vaccine in August last year. Western researchers were initially skeptical due to the vaccine’s short testing period, but the vaccine proved to be 91% effective, according to the respected journal Lancet.
Sputnik V has so far been approved in 30 countries, including Hungary as the only country in the EU where it has been approved.
In October, another Russian vaccine was approved, EpiVacCorona. Russia will likely start using it in March.
