Two cats in Ringerike have been confirmed to be infected with salmonella, and several animal clinics in Eastern Norway report an increasing number of cats with salmonella symptoms.

This is stated by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Veterinary Institute on its website.

– “Several of the sick cats are reported to have caught small birds,” says veterinarian Hannah Joan Jørgensen at the Veterinary Institute.

Salmonella infection can be transmitted from animal to human, and good hand hygiene is important if the cat is suspected of being infected.
