The Government grants NOK 500 million extra for housing support through the Husbanken. Thus, more monetary support is received and today’s recipients can receive more per month.

The new recipients will receive an average of NOK 900 a month on average, while the existing recipients will receive an extra NOK 600, the Ministry of Local Government, and Modernization writes in a press release.

– “Single households and small households will benefit particularly from this. We know that they often have higher housing costs in relative terms,” says Municipal and Modernization Minister Nikolai Astrup (H).

The new allocation is linked to the situation around the Coronavirus pandemic. The changes will take effect as of the payment of housing allowance in May and last until October. During this period, the Husbanken will also disregard postpaid unemployment benefits and sick pay from Nav, due to the heavy burden on the agency. In this way, the recipients should not have to get an even greater income shift.

– “The housing allowance for April is paid out in May. That is why it was very important for us to withdraw this money before revising the national budget,” says Astrup.
