The Red Cross is now going on a meteorite hunt in Lier, and everyone is invited to participate in the search effort.
This weekend, the sky lit up, and loud bangs were heard all over Eastern Norway. A meteor whizzed across the sky, and according to the experts, the meteorite may have landed in Finnemarka in Lier.
“This is such a big event that it is fun to be a part of it,” the Red Cross’s Christian Hollie noted.
The Red Cross invites everyone to join the search, the newspaper Drammens Tidende writes. Those who want to participate can show up at the municipal car park in Trolldalen, by Rustadveien, on Friday at 10:30 AM.
“An organized search”
“There will be someone from our crews to receive attendees, and then we will divide them into groups together with our crews,” Hollie said.
“We will base our efforts on the map from the Norwegian meteor network. We will divide the area into small parts, which we systematically search. This will be an organized and systematic search.”
On Wednesday, the Norwegian meteor network narrowed down an area where the meteorite could be located. It is now estimated that it is located between Gjevlekollen, one of the highest peaks in Finnemarka, and Neverkollen in Lier.
