On Friday, Bergen Municipality reported 62 new corona cases. The Municipality is concerned and is following the situation closely.

The City Council is following the infection situation closely and will assess whether there is a need for new measures over the weekend, the Municipality wrote on its website.

Bergen Municipality had a meeting with the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) on Thursday. It received recommendations to consider targeted measures or recommendations if the infection rates do not decrease in a short time.

The chief infection control officer in Bergen has also recommended waiting and looking at the development of infection before deciding on the introduction of local measures.

Considering action next week

Next week, the City Council will meet and assess whether there is a need to introduce local measures. The Municipality will also plan meetings with campuses and organizers of major events in the future.

“We are concerned due to the high infection rates and are following the situation closely. We also have regular contact with the FHI and will have a meeting with representatives of the nightlife industry today since there has been a good deal of infection in restaurants. The Municipality will also increase inspections this weekend and encourages venues to keep guest lists at the entrance,” Health Councilor Beate Husa (KrF) said on Friday.

Unknown route of transmission

The infection is still spreading in many different areas but with a slightly broader age distribution than earlier in the week.

A total of 27 of the infected are aged 20–29 years, and 16 are aged 30–39 years.

Of those infected, 36 are close contacts, seven are cases of imported infection, while 16 currently have an unknown route of infection. One case has not been mapped yet, and two cases have an uncertain route of infection.
