Ukraine urges its citizens to leave Russia immediately and advises Ukrainians against traveling to Russia.

The threat of Russian invasion may make it difficult for the country to offer consular services.

“Due to the escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine, which could lead to a significant reduction in the offer of consular assistance in Russia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Ukrainian citizens to avoid traveling to Russia and advises citizens who are in Russia to leave the country immediately,” a statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday noted.

Ukraine calls in reserve forces

Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky is calling in reserve forces. Former soldiers between the ages of 18 and 60 are called back for a maximum of one year of service, according to Reuters.

The decision comes one day after Zelensky made it clear that he still wants to take the diplomatic route to resolve the crisis.

At the same time, however, he emphasized that Ukraine would not cede territories to Russia.

The main goal is to ensure the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said. He also welcomed Western sanctions against Russia.

Zelenskyj ruled out a full mobilization on Tuesday.
