Nearly 800,000 TV viewers watched King Harald’s speech on NRK1 on New Year’s Eve – over 100,000 more than in 2018. In addition, over 90,000 viewers watched on TV 2.

“It is a significant increase. The speech by the King at the New Year has always been important for people to see, and it has always had high numbers of viewers, but we have to go back to 2003 to find higher numbers in the same target group,” says NRK Analysis Manager Kristian Tolonen in NRK to Kampanje.

On New Year’s Eve, there were 797,000 viewers watching the King’s speech on NRK1, compared to 678,000 viewers the previous year. Admittedly, it is Crown Prince Haakon who has the record from 2003 when he gave the speech because the King was ill. He garnered 803,000 viewers in the 10–79 age group.

The King’s speech was also shown on TV 2, which had 91,000 viewers this time, against 68,000 viewers the previous year.
