The government will not send more troops to the UN operation in Mali. All Norwegian personnel are thus out of the country when the current contingent returning home in late November.

Around 70 Norwegian soldiers who have been deployed in the capital Bamako and a Hercules transport aircraft will be brought home by the end of November.

The Defense Ministry will not send an engineering unit to the UN mission MINUSMA in Mali, as the government started last year, wrote the newspaper Dagbladet.

The contribution to the MINUSMA in Mali is the only operative force contribution Norway have left with UN.

In addition, only a handful number of Norwegian observers and staff officers will remain in the service of the UN. It’s the smallest contribution in ten years, according to the newspaper.

The Ministry will also likely ask the Armed Forces to cancel plans to send personnel to the EU military mission EUTM, which conducts training and mentoring of the security forces in Mali.
