The tips flow at the Tax Agency after introducing a new and simpler solution to notify about black labor, illegal rentals and other tax evasion.
The electronic tip solution on the Tax Administration’s website was introduced in early December. Already in the first month, 346 tips came in, which is an increase of 23 percent from the previous year. In January, the amount of tips made another jump with 526 tips – an increase of 58 percent compared to the same time last year.
-“There has been a significant upturn since we launched the solution. We take it as an indication that it is easy to use, and that people want to make sure everyone pay the right taxes and fees,” says Division Director Eve Vangsnes Bergli in the Norwegian Tax Agency.
In recent years, between 3,700–4,500 tips have been received annually.
The tips are towards big and small issues, and we are notified about individuals and businesses.
– “It’s a wide variety. The tips can be related to registration and reporting, for example when renting property, hidden income and wealth abroad, or it can be about workplace crime. Sometimes the tips are the start of a case, but most often they complement ongoing issues or areas we are looking into,” says Bergli.
